SCIATICA IN Brooklyn NY
What causes sciatica?
Sciatica is caused by injury or irritation of the large nerves running out of the lower back and into the legs and lower part of the torso. The largest of these nerves, the primary nerve that the others grow out of, is the sciatic nerve. The sciatic nerve can become irritated or inflamed following injuries and conditions such as straining the back muscles, degenerating discs, or because of damage or injury to the ligaments, bones or joints in the lower back. Sciatica is also caused by the tension and trigger points in the piriformis muscle in the buttocks which exerts excess pressure on the sciatic nerve as it starts its journey down the back of the leg. Sciatica is a common among pregnant women due to the anterior tilt in the pelvis to accommodate a growing baby.
When should I see a chiropractor about sciatica?
Dr. Campo believes that no person should live with pain and suggests that anyone experiencing back pain comes in for a consultation. It’s very important to seek treatment if the pain is stopping you from participating in normal daily activities. You should make an appointment for an exam and treatment at your earliest convenience if your sciatica is associated with a specific fall or injury, if it’s radiating down one or both of your legs, or causing any numbness, tingling, or weakness in your legs. Similarly, if your back pain is accompanied by a fever, or if it gets worse at night or while you’re resting, make an appointment with Dr. Campo.
How does chiropractic care help sciatica?
Dr. Campo uses chiropractic adjustments and massage to relieve the pain sciatica causes. Before he provides any treatment, Dr. Campo review your symptoms, ask questions about your medical history, and conduct a physical examination to determine the cause of your lower back pain. After gaining a full understanding of your concerns, he’ll develop a personalized treatment plan that may include adjustments, massage, and corrective exercises to reduce discomfort and improve range of motion in the back and surrounding structures.
